What is fun about decorating for different holidays is that I get to work with different colors that I wouldn’t normally decorate with. Orange and black at Halloween, earth tones at Thanksgiving, pink and red for Valentines, and red, white and blue for 4th of July. I am not normally one who decorates on 4th of July, but I came up with the 4th of July banner, got excited to decorate and now I had another excuse to create something. On a side note working on projects is so stress relieving to me. Does anyone else feel this way too?
To make this DIY 4th of July banner I had almost all the supplies on hand.
Scissors or boxcutter
Red, white and blue paint
Flower wire – I used 26 gauge
First I searched my basement for a cardboard box. Then I created this star in PicMonkey. Next I traced the star on the cardboard, and cut out the stars. I made seven stars total. Then I spray painted three of the stars with a couple coats of white spray paint. After those dried I taped the stars with painters’ tape to create the stripes. I used the width of the painters’ tape to dictate how wide to make the stripes. I painted four coats of red paint. While those were drying I painted the rest of the stars blue. I only needed two coats of the blue. Once all the stars were dry I laid them out to measure how long to make the banner. To hang the stars I used 26 gauge floral wire. I cut a long strip of wire, measured out the distance between each star, and using duct tape, taped the wire to the back of the stars. I cut the wire extra long so I had room for error. Then I took a pen wrapped the wire around it to create the corkscrew look. Then I hung up the banner. I actually ended up making too many stars for the width of the mantle where I was planning on hanging the 4th of July Banner. I just improvised and used the two additional stars to hang down instead of across and it worked out well. What have you made to decorate your home for 4th of July? Would love for you to share.
