Hello thanks for stopping by!
I don’t normally post tips on traveling, but this tip was too good to pass up especially since we are approaching the most traveled time of year. I was given this Tip to Prevent Lost Luggage by some friends in the airline industry and I am really excited to share it with you.
Have you ever had an airline misplace your luggage only to get it a few hours later? Have you ever had your luggage lost and never returned?
Ouch I may be brining up some bad memories, but my goal here is to help you have the best chance of your luggage being returned and have you enjoy your vacation/holidays.
Here are a couple stats from Airport Lost and Found.
Did you know that in 2011 the airline industry mishandled 25.8 million bags. Of those 25.8 million, 3% (774,000) bags were lost. I am by no means throwing the airlines industry under the bus…because believe it or not 99% of checked bags are delivered on time. Thats a lot of bags.
You might be saying “but I put a luggage tag on the outside of my bag.” Putting a luggage tag on the outside of your bag is a great tip and will definitely save you for the majority of mishaps…however those tags can be ripped off inadvertently. The best chance of survival is to not only create an exterior luggage tag but to also make sure your contact information lives inside your luggage as well.
Here is how I made an Interior Luggage ID for my bags and I made it using supplies I already had around the house.
SUPPLIES FOR INTERIOR LUGGAGE ID
- Card stock or paper
STEPS TO CREATE INTERIOR LUGGAGE ID
Step 1) I grabbed a cardboard box and cut a piece of cardboard larger than the size of a piece of paper. Step 2) I created a contact sheet in a computer document, printed it on card stock, traced it on the piece of cardboard and cut the cardboard to size.
Step 3) I used spray adhesive to adhere the printed card stock to the cardboard. Finally I inserted it into my luggage right on top of my clothes so it would not be missed. Make one for every suitcase (sig other, kids, dogs 🙂 ) traveling with you.
Your luggage now has the best chance of being returned to you if it is lost.
Happy Travels and enjoy your trip!
