I love chalkboard projects. I really hope chalkboard stuff never goes out of style. This Chalkboard Charger was a simple, quick DIY. I actually thought of it at the last minute – right before the deadline to submit my stuff for the Christmas Blog Hop – something was missing in that spot so this is what my procrastinating mind came up with. See I am really not a procrastinator I just think better under pressure :-). This could help you out for entertaining if you need it to label food items or a quote or saying to welcome your guests. Great for Christmas or all year.
Supplies:
Charger or object of choice
Chalkboard paint
Paintbrush
Chalk
I had all of these items at home so I didn’t have to go buy anything. However you can get chargers at the dollar store, craft stores and sometimes Walmart or Target. I do like this small bottle of Americana Chalkboard paint. It is great for small quick projects. I bought it at Michaels.
Here is what the charger looked like before the chalkboard paint.
I started by cleaning the charger. Once it was dry I painted the inner square with chalkboard paint. I waited 60 minutes for it to dry. I then painted a second coat of chalkboard paint. The instructions say to wait for 24 hours before applying chalk. But because this was a last minute project I only waited an hour and then applied the chalk. I do suggest waiting the full 24 hours because the chalkboard paint chipped off in some areas.
I seasoned the chalkboard with the chalk like this. I read that it is important to do this because if you don’t then when you write on the chalkboard it could leave imprints of what you wrote on the chalkboard paint.
After I seasoned the chalkboard paint I then wrote my saying. See easy!
So if you are ever in a last minute bind now you have something you can make. It seems I am in a lot of “last minutes” this time of year with the holidays. What decor have you came up with in the last minute of planning something?
