I keep a box of tissues in almost every room in the house. The unfortunate thing is that tissue boxes lack style and do not fit in with most decor themes. I could have these cute decorations or a stylish vignette and there sits an obnoxious mismatched tissue box. Boooo!
Therefore because of this dilemma I have resorted to making my own tissue box holder that fits perfectly with my decor.
This project is super simple and requires very little materials and tools.
SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR TISSUE BOX HOLDER
- 1 Wooden tissue box bought from JoAnns or a paper mache one from Amazon but is more expensive.
- Paint
- Stencil made with the Silhouette Cameo
- Acrylic paint
- Sander and or sandpaper (optional)
- Square or measuring tape
STEPS TO MAKE TISSUE BOX HOLDER
Step 1) I painted the tissue box a couple coats of white paint. One of my favorite white paints is called Bistro White from Valspar paint line from Lowe’s. Step 2) I created a stencil out of contact paper using my Silhouette Cameo that spelled out “Bless You” in the font PilGi. Using a square I marked where I wanted the center of the stencil to be and then I applied the stencil on two opposite sides of the box. I then applied 4 coats of black craft paint.
Step 3) Once the paint was dry I removed the stencil and sanded the entire box, making sure to focus on the corners, edges and letters.
Finally as an optional step just because I can never leave well enough alone, I mixed up some gray paint and water 1:4 ratio. I painted this mixture on and wiped it off with a scrap t-shirt.
The gray and water mixture is just enough to give it a perfect worn look.
And Ta Da…so much better. Here are a few before and afters.
The tissue box was about 1/2 inch taller than the actual box of tissues. So I stuck a coaster under the box of tissue to prop it up. I am hoping one day to make my own wooden tissue box so it will fit my specific tissue box better and I won’t have to buy them at the store.
Now I think that looks so much better. Can’t wait to make more tissue boxes…a unique one for each room.
